Build Small Live Large – Accessory Dwelling Unit Tour Spring 2015
Sunny weekends always help to draw a larger crowd for home tours and this past weekend proved to be perfect for Portland’s 2nd annual Accessory Dwelling Unit Tour.
Home tours are the perfect device to gather ideas, talk to homeowners, experts and see in perspective the location of the surroundings.
I have been to garden, modern home tours, remodeled homes new construction art studio tours and never have I seen the interest like the ADU provided this past weekend.
I had a chance to visit the Northeast & North neighborhood tour on Saturday, where 1,000 tickets were sold!
On Sunday 950 tickets were sold and it was show time at my ADU in Sellwood, where over 600 people came by, they all could relate to having a falling down garage like mine. The before photos I had helped attendees to see the possibilities and the thoughtful consideration to the scale of the property, neighbors and the cottage on the front where I live.
Such a variety of construction from modern to more traditional and the ADU’s really fit the personality of each owner.
Saturday after the tour there was the ADU Tour party at the Caravan-The Tiny House Hotel, everyone sharing a beer and a story of their passion for living small. You could tour each of the six tiny houses on wheels and listen to Alexa Wiley & the Wilderness band play some smooth tunes.
Kol Peterson and his wife had wide tired smiles after organizing this successful event. Partnerships included Earth Advantage, Metro, Bureau of Planning and Sustainability and Accessorydwellings.org
If you need consulting on how to build your own ADU or need to find the right property in order to do so- give me a call!
This property would be a prime candidate for adding an ADU unit.
2109 SE 120th Ave- Mill Park Dollhouse on a large corner lot – could offer ADU conversion with this great out building.
Next time I will share with you some of the clever design ideas I saw inside!
